Managing Condensation

Tenants have a responsibility to control condensation in their UK rental properties as it can cause damage to the property and affect the health of the occupants. Here are some ways to tackle condensation:

1.  Ventilation – Proper ventilation is crucial in controlling condensation. Tenants should open windows, especially when cooking, bathing or drying clothes, as this can reduce the amount of moisture in the air.

2.  Heating – Adequate heating can help to control condensation by maintaining a steady temperature in the property. Tenants should aim to maintain a constant temperature and avoid turning off the heating when they are out.

3.  Damp Proofing – Tenants should report any signs of dampness such as mould or mildew to the us immediately as these can be early signs of condensation.

4.  Avoid drying clothes inside the property as it can increase the moisture in the air, leading to condensation.

5.  Keep the property well-ventilated- Tenants should avoid overcrowding spaces with furniture and avoid blocking ventilation ducts, to allow proper air circulation.

By following these simple steps, tenants can help to control condensation and minimise the risk of damage to their rental property, as well as maintaining a healthy living environment for themselves and other occupants.
